Our Story

It was Preview Day at Beeson Divinity School.

Amy walked in as a prospective student, and Kyle thought she was beautiful as he handed her a welcome packet.

Amy also noticed Kyle but thought he was a fresh Samford grad. She thought to herself, “He has no idea how old I am.”

The day progressed, and before one of the sessions, Amy asked Kyle his age. Since he gets this question often, Kyle did not think too much about it. But he hoped there was more behind it than mere curiosity.

Learning that their ages were almost the same, Kyle looked at Amy’s hand and noticed she was not wearing a wedding ring. Immediately, everything clicked.

He remembered what a colleague had told him that morning: that one of the prospective students coming was a young widow who was a faithful member of Iron City Church and a friend of several current students.

Kyle went home and read the blog that Amy and Sawyer had written during his sickness. He realized that Amy’s faith was just as beautiful as her appearance. He sent a professional (but very friendly) follow-up email to which Amy responded. That email exchange, plus Instagram follows, led to a month of emailing about all the friends they had in common, their interests, and their stories. (You’ve Got Mail?)

Eventually, the two exchanged cell phone numbers and began texting. This led to “grabbing dinner” at Taco Mama on October 22, which ended up being a three hour conversation. And then a more formal date. And then another one.

Amy and Kyle spent time together and in community, seeking discernment about the next steps. It seemed like the Holy Spirit was guiding them towards marriage. After receiving the blessing of her family and in-laws, Kyle proposed to Amy at Lover’s Leap on June 22, 2024.

They often use the language of Ephesians 3:20-21 to describe how God has woven together their stories, which is “immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine.”
